Online gaming: A phenomenon exploding in China
Thursday, 11 March 2010
The online gaming industry will experience an increase in turnover of around 26 billion Yuans (2.5 billion Euros) for 2009 alone in China. This increase would be about 41.2% during the next three years according to a research institute’s observations. The number of online players is no exception. If China has 69 million players at present, they should reach 230 million by 2012.

With this dramatic progress, even if online casinos and poker on the internet are not yet approved, it is mostly Chinese developers such as Tencent Holdings, Shanda Games or NetEase.com which should rub their hands. However, the Internet penetration rate in China, in light of recent official figures (27%) remains less important compared to that of Japan and South Korea (70%). Thus, the potential growth of online gaming in this territory is still enormous.
